MeadWestvaco Corporation announces that its Shellpak™ healthcare packaging solution has received a DuPont Silver Award for Innovation in Packaging.
New York, NY – August 10, 2005 – MeadWestvaco Corporation announces that its Shellpak™ healthcare packaging solution has received a DuPont Silver Award for Innovation in Packaging. Shellpak™, made of high-impact, injection-molded polystyrene, was developed to enhance patient compliance while providing the highest levels of child resistance and senior friendliness to patients and consumers.
The DuPont Awards for Innovation in Packaging is an international, independently judged competition that recognizes advances in utilizing plastic packaging materials. The program has attracted hundreds of entries from 33 countries since its inauguration in 1986. The awards focus on innovations in food and non-food packaging solutions, recognizing that new developments result from contributions made at virtually any point in the supply chain, from technology, equipment, printing and graphics to the final end-use package.
Shellpak™ functions as a secondary pharmaceutical package for unit-dose medications – the rigid plastic "shell" construction provides durable protection and child resistance for blister-packed medications and is especially well suited for friable tablets. The package has been designed for in-house fulfillment using standard high speed cartoning equipment.
Shellpak™ can be customized to reflect brand image and provide differentiation for the product it transports, making it an ideal package for new product introductions or revitalizations in the pharmaceutical and consumer health markets.
MeadWestvaco, a leader in healthcare packaging, is on the forefront of applying new combinations of materials and technologies to promote consumer and patient education, safety and compliance while reinforcing product quality and brand image. Shellpak™ is one of a variety of solutions MeadWestvaco offers. Other solutions include Dosepak, the recipient of five prestigious awards, including the 2003 World Star President's Award
