People

  • PHT Corporation (Boston, MA) announced that David Avakian joined the company as Chief Architect. Prior to PHT, Avakian worked at Phase Forward where he was responsible for several products in the clinical space including Oracle's Health Sciences Trial Center and Central Coding.

  • RadSite (Houston, TX), a provider of assessment and accreditation services in the imaging industry, has appointed Michael Bubel Director of Business Operations. In his new role Bubel will oversee the company's call center, along with the RadSite Assessment Program.

  • Premier Research Group Limited (Philadelphia, PA) announced that Nicky Dodsworth, Premier Research's Vice President of Global Quality Assurance, has been appointed the New Chair of the Education Working Party for the European Forum for Good Clinical Practice.

  • Exco InTouch (Nottingham, UK) has appointed Madhav Vattikuti as Chief Technology Officer where he will use his technology expertise and background to strengthen delivery and development of the company's mobile technology into vertical markets such as eClinical, mHealth, and Late Phase. Mark Brincat has also been hired as Product Development Director and will lead the strategy and development of Exco InTouch's range of patient-centric services and mHealth solutions.

  • Bringing with him over 15 years of experience in drug research, Daniel Tang, PhD, has been selected as General Manager, Asia Pacific for ICON (Dublin, Ireland).

Acquisitions

  • Schulman Associates Institutional Review Board (Cincinatti, OH) has acquired Independent Investigational Review Board (Plantation, FL) in order to allow both organizations, which protect the rights of human research subjects, to provide a more comprehensive suite of review services for pharmaceutical, medical device, CRO, and clinical research site customers.

  • ICON (Dublin, Ireland) has agreed, subject to closing conditions, to acquire BeijingWits Medical Consulting Ltd., a CRO in China.

Ajaykumar Sharma, MD, Pharmaceutical Practice Head, Frost & Sullivan, Middle East and India presents the Indian CRO of the year 2011 award to Ajit Nair, PhD, President, Global Operations, SIRO Clinpharm. Also, seen are Priya Pawar, Vice President-Asia Pacific, SIRO Clinpharm and Aniruddha Patwardhan, Head-Corporate Marketing, SIRO Clinpharm.

Alliances

  • Exodon (Mt. Arlington, NJ) and Primera Analytical Solutions (Princeton, NJ), both clinical research firms, have entered into a non-exclusive strategic alliance agreement in order to jointly offer a range of services.

  • StudyManager (Seattle, WA) announced that Lehigh Valley Health Network (Bethlehem, PA) selected StudyManager's Reveal software to manage its clinical trials. Lehigh Valley Health Network plans to use Reveal as a solution to centralize activity across multiple facilities and departments.

Awards

  • SIRO Clinpharm (Mumbai, India) has been awarded the Indian Clinical Research Organization of the year 2011 award by Frost & Sullivan.

  • Unitectra (Zurich, Switzerland), the technology transfer unit of the universities of Basel, Bern, and Zürich, has won the European Biotechnica Award in 2011. The company received the award in Hannover during the opening ceremony of Biotechnica. The award honors the contribution of European transfer organizations within academic biotech and life science institutes to successful technology transfer between business and industry.

  • ACR Image Mexrix (Philadelphia, PA) is proud to announce Bruce Hillman, MD, ACR Image Metrix' Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, is one of three recipients of the gold medal, the Radiological Society of North America's highest honor.

  • A10 Clinical Solutions (Cary, NC) was ranked Number 48 on Forbes America's Most Promising Companies list, a compendium of 100 privately held up-and-comers with compelling business models, strong management teams, notable customers, strategic partners, and precious investment capital.

  • ClinTec International (London, UK) has been ranked number 356 in the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA program which recognizes fast revenue growth across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa over the past five years.

  • Copernicus Group IRB (Research Triangle Park, NC) has been named a finalist in Training Magazine's annual Top 125, which ranks companies' excellence in employer-sponsored training and development programs.

  • KMR Group (Chicago IL), a firm specializing in biopharmaceutical R&D performance, has formed the Enrollment Metrix Forum. The Forum offers an opportunity to explore critical recruitment issues as well as analyze recruitment processes.

  • BioPharm Systems (San Mateo, CA) has unveiled a new service to help life sciences companies maximize the return on investment for Oracle's Siebel Clinical Trial Management System (CTMS). After an analysis of a company's organizational structure, user roles and task divisions, training materials, standard operating procedures, and other process documentation that involve Siebel Clinical, BioPharm Systems will make recommendations for improving efficiencies around the use of their CTMS.

  • invivodata (Pittsburgh, PA) has expanded its portfolio of global ePRO services by providing Asian language help desk support.

  • CRI Worldwide, (Mount Laurel, NJ) which recently acquired Lifetree Clinical Research, has united the two companies under the new name, CRI Lifetree. Accompanying the new name is its strategically focused tagline, "Innovative Solutions. Reliable Results."

  • The Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Program (Washington, DC) has accredited another seven organizations—including its first organizations in India.

  • Marken (London, UK) has significantly upgraded its existing operating system with a centralized web-based software exclusively designed for its growing supply chain organization. The system, known as "Maestro" has a flexible architecture, which will enable extensive tracking of shipments, integrated documentation, client reporting, and performance monitoring.

New Facilities

  • Neox Clinical Research, a European full service Clinical Research Organization with headquarters in Prague, Czech Republic, is pleased to announce they will be opening an office in San Diego, CA in the first quarter of 2012 as their North American headquarters.

  • Marken (London, UK) continues its expansion of services in Latin America, by augmenting their GMP compliant depot network with the newly purpose-built Buenos Aires facility.

Products

  • Marken (London, UK) announced the launch of Solo, its proprietary web-based system used to manage the regulatory, inventory, and operational supply chain complexities of clinical trials.

  • BioPharm Systems (San Mateo, CA) has released a new Accel-Copy, a flexible application that can be used for tasks such as transferring clinical studies from one Oracle Clinical instance to another, archiving a global library or clinical studies, and refreshing patient data in a non-production environment.
