Quintiles' Trusted Cloud Services Model Recognized in CSO40

Quintiles announced today that it has been named to the 2014 CSO40 by IDG's CSO magazine for the second year in a row, recognizing its “Trusted Cloud Services Model” which extends internal security controls to cloud service providers.

The CSO40 Awards recognize 40 organizations for security projects and initiatives that demonstrate outstanding business value and thought leadership. They are scored according to a uniform set of criteria by a panel of judges that includes security leaders, industry experts and academics.

The Trusted Cloud Services Model

Quintiles’ Trusted Cloud Services Model was developed as a means of extending internal security controls to cloud service providers. Operating in a highly regulated industry, Quintiles cloud service providers are subject to the same level of security assurance as internal systems.

Integrating the cloud network, Quintiles developed this new approach which builds upon its global security framework and application security assessment program, extending security controls directly into cloud service providers’ environments. The model affords Quintiles a means of leveraging providers’ security services and combining them with internal systems and processes. Extremely flexible, security controls can be met by the cloud provider, Quintiles, or jointly.

“This combination provides a rapid and cost-effective means to extend security controls into service providers,” said Jack Baker, Quintiles executive director of IT security. “It enables our business and customers to take advantage of cloud-based services with the assurance that security controls are managed to Quintiles’ high standards.”

Quintiles Chief Information Officer Richard Thomas commented, “The cloud is a critical component of our infrastructure, and having the flexibility to leverage capabilities from multiple partners serves our business and customers very well. We are humbled and proud to be recognized in this year’s CSO40 awards,” he concluded.

“For the second year in a row, outstanding organizations demonstrating innovation, creativity and understanding of business value in security were chosen from a large pool of submissions," said Joan Goodchild, editor, CSO.
